Below, we\u2019ll explain a little about the scenarios in which this may be the case.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Capital Gains Tax<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/springbokproperties.co.uk\/blog\/capital-gains-tax-property\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Capital Gains Tax<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is a levy on the profits you make when selling or \u201cdisposing of\u201d an \u201casset\u201d. Usually, Capital Gains Tax payments are charged at 18%. However, for additional rate tax payers, they are charged at 28%.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s worth noting that there is a \u201ctax-free allowance\u201d when it comes to this levy. The only scenario in which you will find yourself paying SDLT is if you\u2019ll be buying and selling property at the same time.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><strong>SDLT When Buying<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You will be required to pay Stamp Duty when buying any property worth over \u00a3125,000 &#8211; unless you\u2019re a first time buyer, in which case the threshold is \u00a3300,000.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is important to complete an SDLT return when buying any property worth more than \u00a340,000, even if there is no Stamp Duty to Pay.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">SDLT is charged according as a percentage of the value of the property you are buying, following this system:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For properties worth <\/span><b>\u00a3125,000 or below<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, no SDLT is payable<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For properties worth <\/span><b>\u00a3125,001 \u2013 \u00a3250,000<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, SDLT is payable at 2%<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For properties worth<\/span><b> \u00a3250,001 \u2013 \u00a3925,000<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, SDLT is payable at 5%<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For properties worth<\/span><b> \u00a3925,001 \u2013 \u00a31,500,000<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, SDLT is payable at 10%<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For properties worth over over <\/span><b>\u00a31,500,000<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, SDLT is payable at 12%<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If the property you are buying is to be a second home (<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">not <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">your \u201cmain residence\u201d) or a buy-to-let, there will be an <\/span><b>additional 3%<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> surcharge.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How Do You Pay Tax On a House Sale<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">do you pay taxes when selling a house?
